WHAT IS
A SPECIALIST?
A Board-Certified Veterinary Specialist is a Veterinarian who specializes in a particular field of Veterinary Medicine. While your family Veterinarian handles your pet’s primary health concerns, a Specialist provides many forms of advanced specialized care to assist in maximizing your pet’s health and quality of life.
WHEN DO YOU
CALL A SPECIALIST?
A Specialist works closely with your Veterinarian to build the best possible treatment plan for your pet. When specialized care is warranted, you may contact us directly or have your Veterinarian contact Bark City to set up a referral. For clients who prefer to reach out to us directly, we will always attempt to contact your primary Veterinarian as a professional courtesy.
HOW
DO WE DIFFER FROM OTHER SPECIALISTS?
If you're seeking the best possible quality of care for your pet, Bark City has the world class expertise you’ve been searching for. Our Specialists are globally recognized for their contributions to Veterinary Medicine, including authoring dozens of textbook chapters, clinical studies, and scientific articles about Specialized Care. We are very active in teaching and are often asked to lecture in large Veterinary conferences. In fact, we spend much of our time mentoring other Board Certified Specialists aspiring to reach the same level in their careers.

TRUSTED LEADERS IN CLINICAL CARE AND EDUCATION
PIONEERS IN MINIMALLY INVASIVE CARE
Bark City was founded by Dr. Brian Beale, who improved the Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) procedure by pioneering the Arthroscopic TPLO. Today this procedure is the most effective and minimally-invasive form of cranial cruciate repair. Dr. Beale co-authored Small Animal Arthroscopy, the textbook that was a foundation for many modern minimally-invasive surgery techniques.
A NETWORK OF LEADERS IN THE VETERINARY PROFESSION
Bark City is a part of Beale's Best, an independent veterinarian-owned group dedicated to driving excellence in Specialty Medicine through hands-on Continuing Education, Clinical Research, and building non-corporate Specialty Hospitals with a culture focused on excellence in Clinical Care.
THE SPECIALISTS OF SPECIALISTS
Dr. Beale and our Surgery colleagues teach over 75% of the Orthopedic hands-on Continuing Education around the world. As pioneers in the profession with decades of experience, we spend much of our time training other Specialists to reach the same standards of excellence in Clinical Care.
DESIGN LEADERS IN ORTHOPEDIC INSTRUMENTATION
Our colleagues in the Beale's Best network have consulted for and collaborated closely with leading implant manufacturers to develop many of the most commonly-used implants in Veterinary Orthopedics.
Starting Spring 2022, Bark City is offering medical and surgical management of neurological conditions. Read more about Dr. Ashley Hechler, our Neurologist & Neurosurgeon, on About Bark City.
